Why Grassfed is Better

There are  many opinions out there about "grass" fed beef vs. "corn" fed beef.  We would like to give you the facts why we feel grass fed is better for you.

HEALTHY  MEAT

·        In the unhealthy American food marketplace, a beef that has been corn fed is considered superior for its well-marbeled flesh that is made up of saturated fat and cannot be trimmed.  Because the fat on these cuts of meat give it a wonderful  flavor, it seems to appeal to chefs and consumers alike, the fatter the beef the more desired the cut is, and the more expensive it becomes.

·        For the consumer wishing to promote health and well being through nutrition, grass fed animals are the best choice. It is a fact that products raised by animals from the pasture have overall less total fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, and calories than animals from the feedlot.  In addition to having less of this harmful fat it includes more vitamin E, beta-carotene, and a number of health-promoting fats, such as omega 3 fatty acids.

QUALITY OF MEAT

·        Keep in mind that animals raised in feedlots and factory farms are given diets designed to boost their productivity and lower costs, in other words its all about business.  They are also given growth hormones to promote faster growth and antibiotics to keep them healthier in an unhealthy environment and crowded conditions.

·        Beef raised in the pasture are healthy and live low stress lives.  There is no reason to give them antibiotics because they are already healthy, living in the open with clean air and water.

THE ENVIRONMENT

·        Factory farms and feedlots contribute greatly to air and water degradation and are harmful to the environment.  They consume large quantities of water and use huge amounts of fossil fuels to run machinery and farm large quantities of grain to feed these animals.  The manure must be transported nearby and dumped in excessive amounts which causes water and ground pollution in the area.

·        Pasture raised animals fertilize the grasslands naturally and over time bring a richness to the soil.
